CROMWELL - A New England Music Award Nominee country band will perform at the Cromwell Summer Concert Series.

       North County Band leader, acoustic guitarist, and one of the lead singers, Scott Smith, said the band played in town as a trio before.

       “This is the first time we’ll bring the full band,” Smith said. “We’re excited to do that.”

       The performance is on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at 1 River Road.

       Smith said the band is based in Redding, Connecticut, and formed three years ago.

       “We’re a six-piece Country-Americana band that plays covers and original songs,” he said. “We have one extended play record that’s been released, and we’re planning to record another one, which we hope to release early next year.”

       According to Smith, the band will play songs from their upcoming and first records, as well as familiar covers.

       “The band has grown since we started in a way we did not predict,” he said. “We’ll play 110 dates this year, at least in nine different states.”

       Smith said he wrote a Connecticut tribute song that Governor Lamont shared.

       “That probably brought us more attention than we’ve ever got anywhere,” he said.

       According to Smith, the band plays consistently.

       “Our biggest accomplishment as a band was selling out Daryl’s House Club in Pawling, New York,” he said.

       Smith said the band enjoys their visits to Cromwell.

       “They’ve always treated us well,” he said. “The music seems to be well-received by the people that come to the Farmer’s Market.”

       According to Smith, the band plays mostly country songs and some mainstream tunes with a country twist.

       “We cover songs by Bonnie Raitt, Darius Rucker, Leonard Skinner, and other artists,” he said.

       Smith said the band’s music is family-friendly, and many fans are over 40 years old.

       “We are also popular with children,” he said. “We played the summer concert series in Ashford, Connecticut, and during the last song, we invited all the children up on the stage, and they were dancing with us and having a nice time.”

       Smith said he hopes the audience enjoys the band’s music and is interested in their original songs.

       “I hope they are supportive of our band and other Connecticut artists creating original art and take an interest in us,” he said.
