Digital Content Specialist Job Description Approved
NEWINGTON - The Newington school district is looking to create and manage a digital content library of curriculum material and they want to hire a specialist to do it.

So the Town Council voted unanimously to approve a job description for a Digital Content Specialist, which will involve writing, editing, and publishing digital material in order to keep the district’s curriculum up to date with new information.

The Council’s approval does not make any budgetary or hiring decisions for the Board of Education.

â€"By having our own digital content library, we possess the ability to edit and update content in real time, without having to rely on publishers, the next edition of a textbook, or exorbitant fees required to purchase resources from a publisher,” said Newington Public Schools Chief of Staff Stephen Foresi in a memo to Town Manager John Salomone.

And in the long run, that means cost savings for the district, he said.

â€"We are typically forced to purchase entire textbooks, or online textbooks, by publishing companies, yet only using portions of that resource while paying the full price,” Foresi wrote. â€"By creating our own content, we can create only that which is needed for each course, and easily modify content as curriculum is revised, advances in science occur, and history is rewritten.”

In addition to updating creating and updating curriculum-relevant material, the Digital Content Specialist provides â€"training and guidance to web content authors”, incorporates social media tools to disseminate related information throughout the district, and provides resources, such as websites and interactive tutorials, to students and staff, according to Foresi’s memo.
