Wethersfield Historical Society Wins Grant for Exhibit
WETHERSFIELD - Wethersfield Historical Society is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $20,000 grant to apply the planning of a new permanent exhibit. The grant was awarded by Connecticut Humanities, a nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, which supports cultural historic organizations that tell the state’s stories, build community and enrich lives. The new exhibit will be located at the Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, 200 Main St., Wethersfield, and is expected to open in 2017.

Lauren Miller, Director of Grants and Programs at Connecticut Humanities said, â€"Wethersfield Historical Society is poised to tell some great stories of the people and events of the past that shaped this town into the vibrant community it is today.  Their plans to include both community and scholarly input will help them develop an exhibition that will allow visitors to explore the human experience that has taken place in this great town. Connecticut Humanities is proud to support their efforts!”

Wethersfield Historical Society’s Executive Director Amy Northrop Wittorff said, â€"We are very excited about the opportunity this grant gives us to seek the help of our community members in the planning process for an exhibit that will tell the stories of our community from its founding to the present day.  Wethersfield has an important early history, but the contributions of many residents throughout its 400 year existence have made our town what it is today, and we need our residents’ input to capture and interpret all of that information in the best possible way. We can’t wait to get started!” Wethersfield Historical Society invites the residents and interested people to attend a focus group on Thursday, September 10 from 6 to 8 pm at the Keeney Center to share your thoughts on what the new permanent exhibition should include. State Historian Walter Woodward will open the event with a brief historical talk of Wethersfield’s place in state and national history followed by an open conversation with community feedback.
