Baseball and Softball Seasons Rounding Third
ROCKY HILL - It’s hard to believe that the baseball and softball regular seasons are coming to an end. This is an important week for the handful of local teams that are vying for post-season tournament berths. Here’s a look at some of the crucial games slated for later this week.

Cromwell baseball has already earned a spot in the Class S tourney, but they can improve their positioning with a road-victory over Manchester in the regular season finale. It will be Cory Baldwin’s final regular season game in a Panthers uniform. The senior has been spectacular this season, leading the team in hits, runs, and RBI. First pitch for Friday’s game is 3:45 p.m. at Northwest Park on the Tolland Turnpike.

The Panthers softball team is looking to claw their way into the tournament after losing five of their last six games. Junior Taylor Wood, who leads the team in hits and RBI, and her teammates close the season on the road against New Britain. First pitch for Friday’s showdown at Martha Hart Park is 7 p.m.

Rocky Hill’s pitching ace Jessica Greenspan has been nearly untouchable at home, shutting out four opponents this season. Greenspan has two more home games remaining, starting this Friday against Ellington. The Terriers have already locked up a spot in the Class M postseason, but victories in the final two games could earn them a home date in the tournament.

The Terriers baseball squad is hoping to sneak into the tournament after a slow start to the season. The 2014 champions began the season losing six of their first seven, but have rebounded to win six of eight, including three straight last week. The have a vital road game this Friday night against Simsbury.

Newington’s Olivia Burgos has continued her dominance from the mound and also leads the team in hitting. The Indians softball team is already assured a spot in the Class LL tourney, but home victories over Northwest Catholic and Windsor this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday can earn the team a postseason game at home.
